In recent years, more builders are adopting the use of insulated panels, favoured for their high durability, insulation, and environmental benefits from the start. While these panels may be more expensive upfront, they offer energy-saving advantages over time, also reducing your overall carbon emissions.
According to Canada Green Building Council, the construction industry accounts for almost a third of Canada's greenhouse gas emissions. To cut down on pollution and the consumption of natural resources, insulated panels offer a more sustainable alternative.
Unlike traditional building materials, which are more susceptible to greater heat transfer, insulated panels are made from recyclable materials and offer high thermal resistance. At Advanced Panel Products, we manufacture insulated panels with energy efficiency in mind. Ideal for building envelopes and industrial applications, find wall panels that can handle the Canadian weather.

Sustainable Manufacturing with SIPs and IMPs
There are two common types of insulated panels: structural insulated panels (SIP) and insulated metal panels (IMP). Both are commonly used in building applications and factory-made, simplifying the construction process.
Structural Insulated Panels (SIP)
Made from two oriented strand boards (OSB), insulated panels contain a foam core at their centre. The core utilizes expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation, resulting in a strong, pre-insulated layered panel. This composition allows for wasted wood (e.g. from tree stumps) to be used in its production, leaving behind more forest acreage.
Compared to traditional framing, SIP structures use significantly less wood, too. The EPS core is composed of a plastic structure that's mainly formed using air. Additionally, any leftover EPS that remains after production can be recycled to create more panels or products.
Insulated Metal Panels (IMP)
Insulated metal panels (IMP), like structural insulated panels, contain a foam core sandwiched between two outer layers. However, IMPs use steel facing for their exterior with polyurethane foam for the core.
While insulated metal panels are favoured more for their durability against rain, snow, or wind, SIPs offer greater resistance in wall assembly. As a result, IMPs provide optimal indoor air quality and control over thermal insulation, water penetration, and air leaks.
Construction and Installation Advantages
SIPs and IMPs are created in a manufactured environment, allowing them to be precisely cut and insulated beforehand. With less room for error and no insulation workarounds required, installation time for construction projects occurs up to 50% faster.
Mass-produced, insulated panels offer competitive prices, precision, and consistency in quality. Builders can complete construction faster, even during winter months, with a structure that's impermeable to moisture damage.
Enhanced Interior Control
Structures built using traditional methods not only take longer but also require a larger HVAC system. This means that more energy is wasted and less space is available. Prefabricated buildings using insulated panels can also be readily assembled, assisting with waste reduction.
With no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or VOC emission factors used in construction, insulated panel structures enhance indoor air quality, eliminating the associated risks of off-gassing.
Design and Architectural Versatility
Modern insulated panels have evolved, offering a wider variety of colours, finishes, and textures. Whether commercial or residential, you can find ribbed, corrugated, or smooth profiles that complement any architectural structure.
Depending on budget requirements and project use, IMPs and SIPs can be customized to offer a more contemporary look while also improving thermal performance.
Lower Long-Term Costs
Although insulated panels cost around 15 to 30% more than traditional roofing materials, they require less maintenance. Home or property owners who use greener methods to build may also qualify for environmental grants or rebates.
IMPs or SIPs also allow the construction of airtight seals that work perfectly in the colder Canadian seasons. Suited for roofing or walling, these panels minimize heat transfer, saving property owners on heating or cooling costs.
